Moon formed after Earth explosion: new explanation for ancient astronomical enigma

The origin of the Moon has been for long a controversial topic in the world of science. Recently, an astronomer said that our planet gave actually birth to the moon about 4.5 billion years ago: a huge blast, equivalent to 40 billion nuclear bombs, occurred inside earth’s core and that would have led to the formation of the Moon (scroll down for video).

According to Wim van Westrenen (1973), a scientist at the Vrije Universiteit (VU – University) Amsterdam, all previous theories on the formation of the Moon failed to provide accurate answers.

The astronomer George Darwin, son of Charles Darwin, suggested that the Earth, from its inception, was rotating at high speeds before broking into pieces, some of which being thrown into space and becoming the natural satellite – the Moon. However, this theory, popular in its time, was shadowed by the “colossal impact hypothesis” which says that a celestial body the size of Mars would have collided with the Earth and after the impact it split space junks that formed the Moon.

However, this hypothesis was disproved by the findings resulting from the analysis of lunar rocks collected during the Apollo missions.

A chemical analysis conducted last year at the University of Chicago showed that these rocks have the same isotopes of oxygen, silicon and potassium as the rocks on Earth, indicating a common origin.

Dr. Wim van Westreren, an expert in experimental petrology, suggests that these data prove that the moon was once part of the Earth and was hurled into space by a huge explosion that occurred in the Earth’s molten core.

In order for this to happen, there was required a sharp increase of energy; van Westeren calculated that the blast had the force of 40 billion atomic bombs similar to that dropped in Hiroshima.

The idea that earth’s core houses a huge nuclear generator has already been circulating for about 60 years. In West Africa there are such natural fossil nuclear reactors much smaller, of approx. 10 meters in diameter.

Van Westeren believes that a nuclear explosion is the only thing that could quickly generate huge amounts of energy needed to catapult the moon into space.

Scientists concluded that heavy chemical elements such as uranium and plutonium, originating from high density rocks, sank deep inside the planet during its birth, and accumulated inside its external core by forming large liquid deposits of molten rocks.
