Video: Volvo Mean Green to set world speed record on Utah race track
Volvo announced in late March 2012 its intention to set a world speed record with a hybrid truck that was named Mean Green. And just one month later, Volvo kept its promise as Mean Green managed to meet the proposed goal on track in Utah, U.S (scroll down for photos and video from previous test).

Mean Green is equipped with a Volvo D16 diesel engine that was modified to provide 2129 hp and 6779 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to an upgraded I-Shift automatic gearbox, and works in tandem with an electric engine, able to deliver 203 hp and a torque of 1,200 Nm.
Aerodynamic elements were revised, but almost all components come from Volvo, including also the cabin.
In the presence of representatives of the United States Auto Club, a division accredited by the FIA, Volvo Mean Green reached a top speed of 236 km / h (the truck being set into motion before riding 1,000 meters) and an average speed of 153 km / h (1000-meter-race test with start from rest). Both results will be confirmed by the FIA after 30 to 60 days.
Volvo Mean Green has experienced a similar challenge last year in Sweden. However, the results were better now, and the pilot Boije Ovebrink obviously has enough reasons to be proud.
