The Queen Beatrix’s free celebration organized by Slam FM was full and the other dance parties on the outskirts of the city were sold out.

What is permitted??? Well, apparently almost everything! On this special day you are allowed to publicly dance, drink, get drunk, shout, throw beer cans randomly (excepting someone’s head), pee in the public toilets and sleep wherever you find a spot in the parks or side of canals (be careful, there are plenty, do not get drowned by mistake).

In the past years Amsterdam saw on this specific day (April 30) an upward trend in the number of visitors which rose from 610,000 in 2004 to 800,000 in 2011. Mayor Eberhard van der Laan decided this year to spread the major festivals and events all over across the capital and his idea seemed to work as the flow of party people was ok. The atmosphere was nice and relaxed mainly due to the nice weather. About 230,000 passengers took the train to Amsterdam.

Note to foreigners! As many of you may know, in Amsterdam (and not only) you are allowed to legally buy and smoke marijuana in the coffee shops. Therefore you should rush to come to the Netherlands because as of May 1, the Dutch government plans to ban the foreigners from smoking “grass”; only country’s residents are permitted, so if you intend to get some “stuff” you need to get friended with a Dutch citizen or someone who resides here. It is a pitty that 1st of May is just…tomorrow:(
